Winter Ball is tonight...

I never thought I would go to Winter Ball. I didn't go last year, and I didn't really have any desire to go this year. But then Megan called and guilted me and convinced me to go dress shopping with her. I told her I would go to Winter Ball if I could find a dress I liked. I figured there was really no way I would find one I liked and that fit and was in my price range. But...Macy's is closing. So they had some ridiculous sales. And I'm going to Winter Ball tonight.

Here's my dress...
I love it. I think it's gorgeous on me.

The theme for this year's Winter Ball is Masquerade, so I'm about to head downtown to Zeezo's (our friendly neighborhood costume shop) to buy a cheapo mask. The Ball is being held at the Antlers Hilton ball room, which is super duper fancy. I heard it cost $17,000 just for the hotel and food. (Not even dinner, just snacks.)

This should be interesting.

Busy as the proverbial bee...

Here are four layouts I've done recently. The first two use Ladybug Pages' "Whimsical Wonderland for Boys" kit. (Check it out here.) The second two feature Ladybug Pages' as yet unreleased kit "A Love To Remember". This kit should be released in the next couple of days at Pam's store.

A quick post...

Pam of Ladybug Pages at My Scrap Shop has two new kits, Whimsical Wonderland for Girls and then also Whimsical Wonderland for Boys. These layouts are obviously from the girl version! You can pick up these collections here.

I made this one ^^^ especially for Ella. (I mean, not to be like, "look at my super skills", because it's not the greatest, but because I thought Ella would like it!)

Now that I have no new kits to work with, I guess I'll get on that crocheting, lol.

Digiscrapping like crazy lately...

but it's been so much fun! My CT designers just keep outdoing themselves. The next two layouts were done with Sherry Ferguson's Heart Enough Paper Pack and Heart Enough Doodles. They are available here at Funky Playground Designs.

Also, every morning I leave a little early for class so that I can sit and work on Daniel's blanket for a few minutes, at least! Then I work on it during our break in class, as well. Here is what a completed square looks like.

I have all of the light blue inner squares completed, I'm just working on the dark blue borders. When I put the blanket together, I'll sew the squares to each other with black, I think. The blanket is currently going to be 16 squares. If that is too small, I'll have to do a few more light blue inner squares, lol. I have 5 completed squares, I believe.

In class today we had our first test, two problem-solving essays related to what we've been discussing and observing (urban sprawl, ethical implications of research, etc). I think I did pretty well, we'll see on Monday, at least! I also have a literature review essay due on Monday, so I guess I need to find an article...

Anyone have any super cool plans for this weekend? I've got nothing, really, although I think I'll try to crochet a few animals. Y'all can tell the kiddos that I'll have new animals by Monday, at least! (Now that I've said that, I have to do it!)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

A couple of cute LOs...

Okay, first things first, Sherry Ferguson has a new kit out! It is incredibly adorable. I really love it. It's called Space Aliens, and for a very limited time (lol, I sound like a commercial again!) you can get it for only $1. Can you believe that? It's a discount of 82%. So go check it out. Here's the link.

And here are my layouts with Space Aliens!

I really have no other super cool news...tomorrow my class is going on a field trip in the morning. We're just going to check out eastern CoSpgs, where they have a gazillion subdivisions. I'm guessing we're going to contrast those neighborhoods with the North End? My professor keeps saying we're going to Hell. I'm thinking, hey, I'm headed home! That's what Manor looks like now, lol.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

I'm back! Can you even believe it?

So evidently I'm a bad blogger. And really, I'm sorry about that. Kind of. I mean, I was having way too much fun at home to even think about blogging. But now that I'm back at school, I have a little more motivation. (Because I blog when I'm avoiding class work, lol.) (Just kidding, I've done all of my homework for today, I promise!)
The first couple of days back have been fun. It's been nice to see everyone again, and come back to my own bed, and get back into a routine. My class this block is called "Nature, Region and Society of the Southwest". It's taught by a guy named Eric Perramond, who did his grad work at UT and is pretty cool, except that he's a little obsessive about sending emails. (I've gotten 6 from him just today.) He's super smart and funny, though, and a lot younger than most of my professors. (He's probably in his mid-to-late 30s, I would guess.) He and his wife both work at CC.

Here's the course description:

"This course presents the social and natural science methodological frameworks and approaches to regional studies, centered on the Greater Southwest. In this upcoming offering for block 5, 2009, we will focus on urban sprawl along the Front Range (a problem widespread in the Southwest) and some other aspects that are focused on specific "problems" in the region. Students will learn a variety of geographic and regional research techniques, including GIS, field methods, air photos, and carry out an independent project as part of the course. May involve fieldwork off-campus. Required for Southwest Studies majors."

Pretty cool, huh? I was somewhat worried about it after being warned by Eric (in an email, lol) about how difficult it would be, but I don't think it will be too bad. A lot of it will be fun stuff, I think. We do have labs twice a week and quite a few days out in the field, as well as a major independent study research project, at least one essay a week, a portfolio, and a group final. (All in 3 and 1/2 weeks! Crazy, right?)

Today in class we met for about 30 minutes and discussed last night's reading before "accidentally getting lost" (my professor's words) in Armstrong Hall to watch CNN in the theater with hundreds of other students. It was pretty cool to watch the inauguration in that type of atmosphere.
Then we met back up and went on a walk through the North End (the old neighborhood just north of campus). Eric described the history of the neighborhood and explained a lot about the architecture and the planning of it, as well. It was a pretty sweet class.

So do you feel like I'm trying to make up for lost time here by writing the longest post in the world? But wait! There's more! (Hehehe) I still have a few layouts to share for two of my CTs.
First is a layout using The Red Porch's Merry Mod Christmas Kit by Stephanie Brannock.

Next are two layouts using Ladybug Pages' Summer Fun, available at My Scrap Shop.

Okay. I'm tired now. I'll really attempt to be better about this blogging thing.
